0:18They're designed for use in areas that a traditional
0:21tourniquet can't be like in the groin or armpit.
0:23Officials approved the XSTAT for
0:25military use last year but now the FDA says first
0:28responders and doctors can use it to treat anyone
0:31who's experiencing life-threatening and severe
0:33hemorrhagic shock.
0:34The US Army Institute of Surgical Research says 30
0:37to 40 percent of civilian deaths caused by
0:39traumatic injury happen because of hemorrhaging.
0:42And many of those happen before
0:44the victim reaches a hospital.
0:45The FDA says it hopes the technology
0:47will help first responders save more lives.
